AK KITS
? for you guys, about these kits. I'm on a couple waiting list for a Yugo AK. Tell the truth I hate sitting around waiting. So i've be looking at these kits. It seems that if i go with the kit I'd save around $2oo on each gun. I have no idea that once I get the kit and the reciever. I'd be good to go, or would I have to convert it something like a saiga with U.S. made parts. Any help would be great and advice from you all. Thanks

Re: AK KITS
Well, here's a great website for 'kit builders' if you're trying to save $$$.
http://www.weaponeer.net/ Also, if you buy some tools, you can 'fold' your own receivers and tap them for rivets or bolts. An 80% receiver is a non-FFL item which can be shipped to your house. It's a little more involved to build but there's lots of sites with how-to guides on weapon building. |
Re: AK KITS
Another place to ask this question is AK-47.NET forums...

I've built a few AKM's for myself and helped build more, actually this weekend I'm helping a local arfcommer a Polish underfolder and a Yugo M92(what people call a Krink) pistol. I build off 100% Nodak-spud receivers, I've never messed with 80%ers. Mainly because of the exrta work and cash for building off 80%'s, the extra time of welding the rails and heat treating the reciever and the cost of the spot welder. It's also best to have a matcing number parts kit so you don't get into headspace issues. There are a few schools of thought when it comes to building AKM's. I'm a firm believer in the proper way of building, with rivets. I have all AK-Builder brand tools, which makes building a snap, but a larger investment of money. I have about $600 tied up into tools including a 20 ton press, which is used for pressing the barrel/barrel pin in and out and riveting. You also have screw-builds, which doesn't involve pressing the barrel. U-drive builds and slab-side builds(welding). You need a receiver, parts kit and US compliant parts. Usually 5 US made parts if you have a non-threaded barrel and 6 US parts for a threaded barrel. Don't always count on the 5 or 6 part rule, the ATF says you gun can't have more than 10 non-US parts. When I do my builds these are the parts I use... Tapco G2 trigger group(three parts), Nodak-spud receiver(one part), pistol grip(one part), muzzle break or flash hider(one part). http://www.howtobuildanaktyperifle.com http://www.theakforum.net http://ar15.com These links will get you started. |
